Dunoma plaza hotel, restaurant allegedly Ejected nasarawa utd. Players.
No fewer than 12 newly-signed Nasarawa United players were ejected from their Lafia hotel after the Premier League club allegedly failed to settle their bills.
Our correspondent learnt that the players are allegedly being owed four months’ salaries by the Nasarawa State Government-owned club. It was learnt that the management of the club had lodged the players at Dunoma Plaza Hotel since October last year.
Sources told our correspondent that the players were also ejected by the management of Chigozie Restaurant and Bars where they were being fed because the club allegedly failed to pay them.
Our correspondent learnt that the players have been squatting with their friends in the state capital since they were ejected by the hotel.
Efforts made by our correspondent to speak with the officials of the hotel over the issue were unsuccessful as they refused comments.
One of the players, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, claimed they later realised that the club did not make a proper arrangement with the hotel.
The Managing Director of Chigozie Restaurant and Bars, Paul Okwuchukwu, claimed that he had an agreement with the club’s team manager, Solomon Babaja, with a promise that he would be paid at instalments.
Okechukwu said, “The club is owing me N350, 000. But on Tuesday, the TM called me to stop feeding the players, promising that he would get back to me before travelling to Cross River State for their match against Enyimba and he never did.”
He said he reported the matter to the commissioner of sports, Bamaiyi Anangba, on Tuesday, but the commissioner told him that his ministry had nothing to do with the debt as the state government had settled both the hotel bills and the feeding of the players.
Efforts made by our correspondent to reach Anangba on the telephone was unsuccessful as his mobile line was switched off.
But the chairman of the club, Mr. Isaac Danladi, said the management had already paid both the hotel and restaurateur.
However, Danladi said he had yet to receive an official report that the players had left the hotel.
