Abubakar Abdullahi in national team kits

Abdullahi Abubakar 21st minute strike was enough to give Nasarawa United a bright start into the new 2019 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) after six months layoff .

The lone goal came courtesy of a flip pass from Douglas Achiv’s set piece which met the flying eagles defender Abubakar Abdullahi who cleverly beat the Abia Warriors offside trap, the right full back made no mistake as he slot in home to give Nasarawa United the lead , which eventually turnout to be the match winner .

The lone goal from Abubakar Abdullahi shatters a Voodoo nasarawa United suffered from for the past five seasons which saw them winless in every first Matchday with the last, a loss to former champions Plateau United at home in Lafia .

The only goal of the game from Abubakar Abdullahi did the opposite for Abia Warriors who were unbeaten in their previous match day one fixtures in the NPFL.

Abia Warriors scared the Nasarawa United fans with some scintillating attacking moves, at the tail end of the game, but the doggedness of the Nasarawa United defence line led by the captain Emmanuel Makama made sure the voodoo was finally broken to the detriment of Abia Warriors’ unbeaten run.

Reacting to the game, the captain Emmanuel Makama, was full of praise to his team mates for standing strong despite the pressure that came late from their opponent.

Makama went on to point out, it’s just the first game of the season and no time to celebrate yet but to focus and make sure we pick out results in the games ahead.

The week two fixtures of the 2019 NPFL will see Nasarawa United travel to Nnewi to face FC Ifeanyi Uba, who took a point on the road after a goalless draw against last two seasons champions Plateau United in Jos.
