Kaduna teams Dominates Keffi Polo Ranch Tournament

The royal participation of the Lamido Adamawa, HRH Alhaji Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Musdafa and the dominance of Kaduna teams, were the biggest highlights as the ancient kingdom of Keffi, celebrated one of its grandest moments, hosting the prestigious Keffi Polo Ranch Open Tournament, which came to a colourful climax last weekend.

Apart from giving the tournament its strongest royal seal yet, the royal father who spent a whole week in Keffi during the fiesta has further demonstrated that long held tradition of the noble game of polo, being the game of kings.

Like last year, Kaduna teams once again extended their domination of the Keffi event, winning two out the three major prizes at stake, while their perpetual rivals particularly Keffi Ponys denied them the prestigious Governors’ Cup.

But it was the sensational victory of Mohammad Babangida powered Profile Group, who won the National Assembly Cup on first attempt that turned heads at the prestigious event forcing many to ask, where the Kaduna warriors have been all these years.

Positioned as the next generation squad that would continue the winning run of high-goals kings, EL-Amin that holds the all-time record of thirteen Georgian Cup titles, rolled over home side, Iyatu Farms 9-7 in the final to clinch National Assembly Cup

Pivoted by the evergreen Nigeria’s top rated professional, Bello Buba, the Profile’s trio of Abdullahi Nura, Musa Mambo and Rambo Ibrahim Mohammed, defeated three other top oppositions to set the morale booster winner that light up other Kaduna teams to  a near clean sweep in Keffi.

Adamu Atta and his Kaduna Fifth Chukker side keep their Keffi Ranch clean slate with another President Cup title, while Kaduna Trappco team and DeeBee farmers finished winners and runners-up in the Captain Hosa Cup and Emir of Keffi Cup respectively to keep Kaduna on top .

Host Honourable Ahmed Aliyu Wadada who expended a large percentage of the event’s proceeds on educational empowerment in Nasarawa and on the less privilege, gave the teeming Keffi polo enthusiasts plenty to celebrate for as he powered his reigning champions, Keffi Ponys to win the glittering Governor’s Cup.

Others top winners of the weeklong international open polo fiesta include Jos Malcommines who defeated Kano Akasma, to earn their first ever Atiku Abubakar Cup title. Murtala Dankaka and Sani Bala mounted Esbee Mobile shove aside DeeBee Farm 7-6 in a closely fought final to win the Emir of Keffi Cup.

Expectedly, Keffi Open ’2017 rumble that was the fifth in series since the epoch inauguration of the polo ranch six years ago was a befitting event for the Chief Host Honourable Aliyu Wadada to give back to the society through the Wadada Education Foundation.

“I’ve always believe in giving back to the society It’s a huge pleasure to champion the birth of polo here and use the proceeds to benefit the orphanages and education in Nasarawa State and I’ve been lucky my little efforts are yielding results,” Wadada declared.

“Looking at the huge crowd that turned up from the high up there in the society echelon to the down trodden, polo has truly come to stay and Keffi Polo Ranch  will continue to blaze the trail in empowering the people, impacting positively in social and tourism transformation of the state and the country at large,” he added.
