You Killed Nasarawa Cultural Festival, Revive it: Labaran Maku Urge Almakura
Labaran was the APGA flag bearer in the 2015 general Election in Nasarawa state and has been a good critic ofvthis administration.
The National Secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Labaran Maku, has asked the Nasarawa State governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, to revive the state Cultural Festival which he stopped.
He said the cultural festival died since the exit of the erstwhile governor of the state, Aliyu Akwe Doma in 2011.
Maku gave Al-Makura the tasked while addressing journalists at a press conference in Akwanga, headquarters of Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, adding that culture and tourism alone can generate Nasarawa State billions of naira.
“I know that cultural festival in Nasarawa State is a big income. Unfortunately, the state government has killed the cultural festival in the state.”“I am still crying for the Nasarawa State cultural festival which has died since the exit of former Governor Doma as there is no more cultural festival in the state. I don’t know who is afraid of our people dancing, or who is afraid of our masquerades?”
He continued that to worsen matters, the state Customary Court of Appeal has also died. “Why are they denying Nasarawa people justice in their own tradition? I call on the government of Nasarawa state to return the customary court of appeal to enable our own people, in their various ethnic groups, to solve their own problem in their own way as they used to do before,” Maku stated.
Maku, who is a former minister of information, also called on the Nasarawa State Government to use the latest release from Paris Club to offset arrears of salaries, gratuities and pensions of workers and pensioners as a lot of people are dying because of frustration.
“There are many people who retired and their pension dried up and died because they could not pay their children’s school fees, afford food for their families. I am appealing to the government of Nasarawa State to change as it enters into the new year by having human sympathy and settle our civil servants and pensioners,” he concluded.
