Ayuba Umar, member of the leading all progressive congress (APC) aspiring 2019 governorship has written an open letter to Buhari, urging the president to sign the 2010 electoral act into law without hesitation.
In his open letter, Ayuba talks about the need to amend the act without minding a single clause of the bill.
“I urge Mister President, to urgently sign the AMENDED ELECTORAL ACT 2010 into LAW without delay. We should not, because of one clause (new Section 25) in the amended ELECTORAL ACT refuse to pass the amendment, which has very many positive changes that will certainly improve the conduct of elections in the country, into law.
“After passage, then to hasten the conduct of the electoral process, the government can then challenge the vexatious section(s) of the law deemed to be against the grain of the 1999 CONSTITUTION, as amended, in the SUPREME COURT.
“In the alternative, if the Federal Government foot-drags after signing the ELECTORAL ACT AMENDMENT, then, to test the VERACITY of the OFFENSIVE section of the LAW, CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANISATIONS and the “FALANAS” can challenge that portion of the offensive CLAUSE in court of law”.
