Nasarawa Assembly Approves Ammendmet Of 1999 constitution.
The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has approved the amendment of some laws in the 1999 Constitution in the interest of peace and for good governance in the country.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, who stated this at the plenary on Wednesday, in Lafia, disclosed that the house had approved 13 out of the 15 alterations as requested by the National Assembly.
Some of the items adopted includes, independent candidate for election, financial autonomy for state houses of assembly, political age limit for President to be reduced from 40 to 35 years among others.
According to the speaker, two of the items that were not adopted during the day sitting would be subjected to public hearing in order to receive inputs from stakeholders in the state.
He mentioned Local government autonomy and the strengthening of the local administration as the two items that would be subjected to public hearing and called for support in that direction.
“The 1999 constitution if amended would go a long way in promoting good governance as well as will give every Nigerian, a sense of belonging for the socio-economic development of the country.
“We want to assure Nigerians of our support towards the constitutional amendment for good governance and speedy development in the country” he said.
The called on Nigerians to support government at all levels in the interest of peace and national development.
He restated the commitment of the house to continue to enact laws and pass resolutions that have direct bearing on the lives of the people of the state and Nigeria at large.
The Speaker directed the clerk of the house to produce a clean copy of the adopted bill and to submit to the clerk of the National Assembly next week Tuesday.
