Rainstorm Kills Two, Injures 15 In Nasarawa
Two staff of the Nigeria Farmers Group and Cooperative Society of Ga’ate farm center in kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State were yesterday killed by rainstorm.
Fifteen others sustained various degree of injuries, as the rainstorm also destroyed property worth millions of naira belonging to the farm.
The deceased persons are Naomi Audi and Rabiu Yaro Sodengi, attached with the rice processing unit of the farm
Briefing newsmen in his office, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the multi million naira farm, Mr. Redson Tedhekhe, stated that the two affected staff met their untimely death when the storm pulled down the building while the workers evacuating some of the farm produce from the building.
Redson who lamented the unfortunate incident, stated that the 15 injured staff were rushed to Mumbasa Medical center, keffi were doctors are trying to stabilize them.
He however assured that in recognition of the dedication and commitments demonstrated by the two late staff of the farm their salaries would run for one year while those injured would be treated by the farm and their salaries would continue to run to until they return to their duty post.
On the safety measures taken by the farm to mitigate future reoccurrence of the unfortunate incident, the MD, said that they are going to plant fast growing economic trees as well as train and retrain staff on safety measures.
