The Federal Government agency responsible for the welfare of pensioners in Nigeria, Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), have successfully certified 600 pensioners in Nasarawa state.

The two days event, which was the last phase of the North-Central zonal exercise saw the verification of pure federal pensioners as well as state pensioners with federal share under the defined benefit scheme.

The exercise taking place simultaneously in Niger, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Nasarawa state is expected to capture about 9,100 pensioners.

Some of the participants who spoke to journalists during the exercise in Lafia, applauded the directorate for doing a good job.

A first class traditional ruler in the state, the Zhe Migili, Dr Ayuba Agwadu, expressed optimism that with the measures adopted by PTAD, cases of fraud in the pension scheme would be eliminated.

The Royal father applauded PTAD for the hitch-free exercise, describing it as the best as compared to the previous exercises conducted.

On her part Mrs. Rebecca Swende, also a pensioner, described the exercise as interesting and orderly, adding that they had everything at ease. She said, they were treated comfortably by the directorate without difficulties as experienced during previous exercises.

Alhaji Ibrahim Dahiru, a former Permanent Secretary in Nasarawa State and Mr. Salihu Sule, a federal pensioner all said the arrangement put in place by PTAD facilitated the process of verification. They said, unlike the previous verifications where pensioners had to queue for days, the current exercise was fast.
