NSCDC arrests five petrol managers in Nasarawa.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested five managers of different petrol stations for hoarding and also selling Premium Motor Spirit, popularly known as petrol, above the government-approved price of N145 per litre in Nasarawa State.
The operatives, who stormed various filling stations during the four-hour raid, caught some workers selling the product to black marketers and motorists at N150 per litre at many of such places.
During the raid, a truck loaded with over 30 kegs was intercepted by the NSCDC, while some of the suspects on spotting the operatives, fled into the bush, leaving behind their equipment.
Briefing journalists shortly after the operation, Commandant of the NSCDC in the state, Mr. Mahamadu Fari, said that they would continue to arrest anyone found to be selling petroleum products above the approved prices.
His said, “During a raid, we arrested five filling stations managers in Lafia for the hike in petroleum pump price and hoarding of the product, thereby leading to unwarranted scarcity in the state.
“We also impounded a truck loaded with containers suspected to be used in loading of the product to be sold in the black market.
“One of our core mandates as a civil security organisation is to check and clamp down on saboteurs of government efforts to improve the lives of citizens. We will not stop here; we will continue to ensure that there is sanity by curbing criminality.”
