Nasarawa state Government to sign rice pact with Dangote Group
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has said the state will soon sign a pact with the Dangote Group and Flour Mills of Nigeria PLC on rice and cassava production.
He said the state government had finalised arrangement to move officials of the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs as well as those of the Ministry of Lands to Lagos where the agreement would be signed.
The governor said this on Wednesday while hosting councillors from across the 13 local government areas of the state, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House.
He said under the new arrangement, Dangote Group would acquire 50,000 hectares of land to set up rice plants in Doma and Nasarawa local government areas of the state.
The governor added that the Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc would also acquire 10,000 hectares of land to set up a cassava processing plant in
Wamba Local Government Area of the state.
Sule urged the councillors to initiate ideas on how to generate revenue so that the local government councils could become self-sustaining and go beyond paying salaries only.
“I’m challenging you to start looking for ways to raise revenue to do other things other than paying salaries. We cannot be a state that is struggling to make money only to use such to pay salary alone and then go back and fold your hands,” the governor said.
