Al-Makura, Commends Keana LG For Launching Security Programme.
Nasarawa State Governor, Umaru Tanko Almakura, has commended the Interim Management Committee Chairman of Keana Local Government Council Mohammed Ayitogo, for initiation grassroots policing to carry security surveillance, to ensure security of lives and property in the area.
Almakura gave the commendation during the official launching of the community based security programme in Keana, the headquarters of the council tagged “Operation Gyara Halinka” (meaning fix your ways ) which took place at the Keana South Primary School, at the weekend.
The governor a fortnight ago had a security meeting with all security chiefs in the state, including some IMC chairmen and traditional rulers, where he directed the council chairmen to constitute committees on security as a result of the influx of cattle and herders, escaping the Anti-Open grazing Law, implemented by Benue State Government.
Gov. Almakura who spoke through his Special Adviser on Security matters Brig. Gen. Mohammed Ibn Umar Adeka (Rtd), applauded Ayitogo, for stepping up to tackle security challenges in the area, especially at the grassroots level.
He described the launch of the security programme as timely owing to the influx of Fulani herdsmen from Benue to some parts of Nasarawa and the ongoing data collection by the NNPC which may result in oil expropriation in the area.
The governor called on other councils in the state to emulate the Keana LG initiative and place security of lives and property above other priority.
Earlier, the Interim Management Committee Chairman of Keana Local Government Mohammed Ayitogo, said the launching of the security programme was necessitated by the recent youth restiveness, theft and the influx of Fulani herdsmen from Benue to some parts of Nasarawa.
The IMC chairman who called on youths in the area to have attitudinal change and be responsible in order to have a peaceful community, explained that the programme which was built on the policy thrust of the APC’s administration in the state, would ensure the securing of lives and property in the area.
He tasked the members of the vigilante group to ensure they set a good example by first ridding themselves of bad eggs and always operate within the purview of the law and he advised them to work closely with other security outfits in the area.
On his part, the Osana of Keana Alh. Abdullahi Amegwa Agbo lll, who also commended the IMC for the initiative, called on his subjects to live in peace with one another irrespective of their religious and ethnic inclination for the collective growth of the area.
