Reason for high rate of maternal mortality in Nasarawa state revealed
Inadequate family planning consumables in public health facilities in Nasarawa State has been blamed for the high maternal deaths being recorded in Nasarawa State. A visit to some public facilities in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital and other local government headquarters showed that only few facilities were providing family planning services.
At the Primary Health Care (PHC) along Doma road in Lafia, the state capital many women with malnourished children were spotted at the facility receiving medication for their malnourished children.
Head of the Family Planning Unit, Primary Health Care (PHC) along Doma Road in Lafia, Fatima Musa Tanko,told some journalists taking part in a Workshop organised by Pathfinder International Nigeria in an interview during a facility visit that inadequate family planning consumables, lack of male consent and poverty are some of the factors hindering effective family planning services in the state.
