Abducted Sabongida monarch regains freedom
The head of Sabon Gida-Barkin Kogi in Lafia East of Nasarawa State, Dauda Yakubu, who was on Monday night kidnapped by unidentified gunmen has regained his freedom and has been reunited with his family.
The traditional ruler was abducted at his residence by suspected kidnappers at about 1am on Monday. Reports had said that the abductors came to his house, shot sporadically before whisking him away to an unknown destination and demanded N5M ransom.
The Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Bola Longe, who confirmed the release to newsmen in Lafia, on Friday while speaking on the state of security arrangements for Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections, explained that the monarch was rescued by the security operatives deployed in the area.
Longe, however, revealed that 8,000 security operatives had been deployed across the 13 local government areas and some designated flash points in the state.
He explained that 4,000 police were deployed while the remaining 4,000 came from other sister organisations, such as the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to complement the security arrangements in the state.
The police commissioner who said the state was ready for Saturday’s elections however warned those contemplating trouble in the state to steer clear of the state in their interest. He cautioned the personnel to remain civil in the discharge of their assignment.
